Drake is one of the most successful artists ever, breaking Michael Jackson’s record for the amount of nominations for American music awards with 13 nominations all nominations are voted for by fans. This record hadn’t been beat since 1984, which highlights the enigmatic effect Drake has had within the music scene.

Recently Drake has become involved within the Grime scene joining BBK, appearing at a Section Boyz concert, remixing Santan Dave’s song “wanna know.” And planning a project for December called More Life a slogan frequently used by the iconic group Section Boyz. This is huge for the Grime and Rap scene due to the fact the genre has being supressed for years, due to the connotations between the music and violence. I believe this is ridiculous music doesn’t cause violence, I believe it allows an abundance of people to stay away from that side of life as it allows them to voice their problems and experiences in a creative manner. If you actually listen to the lyrics of the artists you understand their personal struggles and the lives they had to lead in order to survive.

The majority of artists don’t glorify their past they talk their past in a derogative manner, in order to try and showcase the fact there is other ways out for people in similar situations. This inspires me to follow my passion in order to reach the goals I aim for, these genres anchor the fact that no matter what background you come from you can succeed as long as you work hard. This allows me to overlook the fact there are people better off than me who have more money to put into their dreams and focus on achieving my own goals. I guarantee an abundance of people feel the same way as you see on a variety of artists social media accounts the love and appraisal they receive from their fans.

People overlook the positive effect these genres have and black list them due to the fact they do not conform to generic stereotypes as they highlight issues the majority of people would rather overlook. This is a perfect example of the statement ignorance is bliss as if the general public don’t have to focus on this side of life then it isn’t real its fantasy, they are able to act as if these problems only occur in movies rather than understanding everyone doesn’t live the same type of life, this allows them to focus on their day to day problems allowing them to lead a life that revolves around their petty issues.

A variety of people have been criticising Drake’s motives for his interaction with artists within the UK, claiming he is trying to increase his British fan base. This is ridiculous he has recently become the artist with the most streamed song ever with “One Dance.” The song was also number 1 for 15 weeks in the British chart this is an outstanding achievement for any artist, thus proving he doesn’t need to interact with UK artists to succeed as he his success is record breaking. However his interaction with the UK Rap and Grime scene is hugely beneficial for the scene, as the artists he interacts with will receive a larger audience. This means people won’t be able to overlook these genres anymore they will have to listen to them due to the increased Radio and TV time they will receive. Then maybe finally they will understand the stereotypes they assume these genres conform to be are incorrect and they may actually enjoy the talent these artists possess.

Countless iconic artists within the Grime and Rap scene have had gigs cancelled or attempted to be cancelled, as well as a variety of other career threatening problems which could have damaged their career extensively. However they moved past those forms of discrimination and excelled providing their continuously growing fan bases with a variety of exceptional music. This should inspire everyone because if these artists can succeed after all those setbacks why can’t you?
