The sad truth about minimum wage

At 17 I am far too aware of the desire for money which means I had to get a job, no one likes their first job you’re there for money and your boss knows that. But if you’re lucky your jobs pays higher than minimum wage, however not all of us are so lucky. So imagine this (for the sake of not being sued I shall not state the name of this company) I become employed by a huge fast food chain, so I’m expecting great things free meals at work, reasonably high pay and an abundance of hours. How mistaken I was. As I understand now the larger the business you work for the worse you are treated, this is because to the owners you are seen as nothing but another digit on a page, that’s the sad truth you're replaceable so why make the effort to satisfy someone as irrelevant as you when they could be making even more money.
The worst thing is as a teenager jobs are ridiculously hard to come by so you talk yourself into sticking at this job and earning your minimum wage hoping and hoping your able to accumulate enough money to pay for Zante with the lads in the summer, or a girls trip to Paris with Kelly or whatever else you want to do. It’s a tiresome circle you hate your job but you love the freedom the money provides so what do you do? We all know the answer you stick it out dealing with your ignorant boss who doesn’t know your name and that one employee that never learnt about personal hygiene and dream of all the things you’re going to be able to do with this month’s pay cheque.
On a serious note the only reason people at the age of 16 and 17 generally receive employment is due to the fact companies are able to maximise their profit margins whilst minimising their wage costs by paying us £4.00 an hour. We all need to understand unless we have money our opinions are overlooked, as sad as it seems money equals power and without that we are seen as irrelevant.
So my advice to you all is use any job you can secure to fund your passion, rather than dwelling on the negatives focus on the fact the money you will earn could allow you to achieve your goals such as becoming a writer like me or any other career that your passion takes you to. Enjoy the journey as when you achieve your goal, the sense of self actualisation will make all the hardship worth it.
