On the 22nd of November I began a series called Leeds finest where I showcase the immense talent within the Leeds music scene. The series began with Graft now I want to show you all the outrageous talent of a young rapper who goes by the name K Dee.
His exceptional rap flow sets him apart from a lot of the artists within the music scene who tend to spit on Grime beats, this has allowed him to establish himself as one of the more iconic artists within our city. His videos on You Tube channels such as Charlie Sloth, KODH TV and First Media TV have all accumulated over a thousand views. This is an exceptional accomplishment when you take into account this artists isn’t even 18 yet, he has countless years to perfect his craft whereas artists twice his age struggle to create the buzz associated with his musical content.
He combines realistic lyrics with comical wordplay in order to create his own unique brand of UK rap. I delved into the comment section of his videos assessing the overall opinion listeners have revolving around his content, obviously the majority of listeners loved it one listeners even stated “this is what’s missing from the game rite now real talk.” This is one of the countless positive comments left under his Fire in the streets freestyle video which accumulated 6,729 views 5 months.
I guarantee K Dee will become a figurehead for the Leeds music scene in years to come, the level of success he is going to receive cannot be limited. I believe his content could reach global audiences because he has that nostalgic old school rap vibe, that many older listeners will remember fondly from their childhoods.
Graft and K Dee amongst various other Leeds based artists are the reason I am proud to state I come from Leeds. When I speak to people from other cities, I am able to almost boast about the musical talent within Leeds stating that my city is one to watch. I honestly believe the artists within our city are as good as or even better, than those from iconic cities within our scene such as London and Birmingham.
My final point I want to instil within this article is don’t sleep on K Dee, his content is exceptional and he will only get better with age. Remember the name and appreciate the content he is going to provide us all with.
