Congratulations to the Godfather

The Godfather of Grime did it… receiving his first number one album with the accurately titled album Godfather. Personally when I found out this was his first number album I was in shock, thinking about the array of top quality projects he has released over the years trying to fathom how on earth he’d never achieved this astonishing accomplishment before.

The whole album is outstanding an array of all-star collaborations such as Devlin, Frisco and JME made this amazing project that little bit more special, as we were able to witness the powers of some scenes most iconic artists alongside the Godfather himself. Each track almost forces you to skank; you can’t help it the vibe is a madness. My favourite track has to be Back with a banger the combination of Wiley’s mad flow and the top quality instrumental, has combined to create one of my favourite ever Wiley tracks.

My bredrin Kourageous Beats idolises Wiley, he began his career as a producer creating instrumentals using Wiley’s vocals over the top of the instrumentals. So taking into account how much this project excited me, I can’t begin to tell you how this project affected Kourageous Beats. This should anchor how enigmatic Wiley has being within the scene and how many people admire him, Wiley is one of the most inspirational figures within our scene alongside the likes of Skepta and Jammer.

I remember being shown by some guy a couple years above me at school Wiley’s Tim Westwood freestyle, this was one of the first experiences I had of Grime I fell in love I became addicted to the genre the tempo and raw nature of the genre. Grime was an unknown concept to me, before that I only ever listened to Indie music. So thanks to Wiley, Skepta, JME as well as a few other iconic artists I am here writing this article today, without Wiley I wouldn’t have found my passion in life. So thank you Wiley.
