The Masked Phenomenon

Casisdead is one of the most prolific artists within our scene collaborating with artists such as Giggs, JME and Professor Green. This should instil the fact he is one of the UK’s most iconic artists, his clear vocals paired with his explosive lyrics resulted in the creation of his own unique vibe that we all "vybz" to. His masks play an integral role in his success because the sense of unknown we associate with Cas' content is heightened by the unknow nature of the man himself. The fact we never know what he is going to sya next is essential as we are constantly anticipating which boudnary he is going to break this time.

The first track I heard from Cas was 6PM I couldn’t stop bumping the track, I remember being in year 10 telling all my mates they needed to listen to him. He was different he didn’t conform to generic stereotypes associated with rap, which is one of the reasons I couldnt stop listening to his content he was strange and I thought that was class. “Pull Jessie J off the fucking stage and make her feel this dick in her rib cage” was the first lyric that ever stuck out to me, Cas combined a well-known name (Jessie J) with his vulgar content allowing his growing audience to relate to the content due to the familiar nature of Jessie J and become mesmorised by how comfortable he is discussing topics we all consider as a taboo within todays society. 6PM was the first track of his I heard and it was a great preview of what he had in store for me and the rest of his listeners he never strays from his vivid content, I believe that is because he understands that his key selling point is that he raps about what other artists refuse to acknowledge. Most rappers spit about “Crud” but Cas’s content is something else, he is able to paint a vivid story with his lyrics this is a talent I believe only a select few artists possess and Cas is definitely one of them.

Cas’ Soundcloud is one of the most popular I have seen from a UK based artists for a while, his latest track Too much drugs released on the 13/02/17 has accumulated 5,319 views on the clip he posted on Twitter and 25,100 views on his Soundcloud page. His Soundcloud page has 14,700 followers however the views he receives are significantly more, 6PM has 233,900 views, Walkin has 152,700 views and All Hallows has 195,800 views. So after naming a mere fraction of the content he has released you are able to begin to understand that he has one of the largest followings within the UK music scene and deservedly so.
