Fashion is an extension of your personality

Leeds is vastly becoming a city filled with culture, open to the expression of identity within various different creative outlets. Music, food, art, writing and fashion are the top 5 that come to mind however there’s thousands more all different and unique portraying an individual or groups personalities. Which I believe is essential as the collaboration of individual passions and aspirations can combine to create something phenomenal so why limit yourself?
Now I want to discuss fashion one company specifically in Blue Rinse, they are a vintage clothing company based in Leeds (Now I guarantee half of you just thought “Er vintage clothes are second hand”) that’s true however that shouldn’t discredit the quality of the garments or the business. I regularly purchase products from this company due to the exceptional variety of clothes they provide, people generally have the misconception that vintage clothes conform to one generic style that’s not true. The array of different products, styles and brands you are able to acquire within a vintage shop is great because it’s very unlikely you’ll ever see someone wearing the same outfit as you.
When it comes to any form of change specifically fashion people subconsciously close their minds preventing themselves from developing as a person as they are unable to cope with change. I am living proof of that for years I forced myself to conform to the generic fashion sense of my peers in search of social acceptance. When I finally realised I didn’t need to conform to one specific style of clothing to maintain social acceptance I began searching for my own style. That seems easy doesn’t it? Finding your own style you just buy what you like don’t you? Wrong after such a long period of time supressing my individuality I found it hard resurrecting that however I found it and began looking for shops, avoiding generic high street shops such as topman and River Island purely because I earn minimum wage and cannot afford to buy a whole new wardrobe at their extortionate prices. Which is when I found Blue Rinse the blue building based in a rather bland area of the Leeds city centre caught my eye so I walked in and realised this is where I need to shop, from Tommy Hilfiger to Puma they had everything you could purchase clothes to relax in then purchase an outfit to wear to one of the most prestigious clubs in town they cater for all of your needs.
Music and fashion are closely linked I believe they both influence one another, if Justin Bieber is seen in a FILA Polo thousands of the same Polo’s will be sold within the next day. However I believe specific genres such as Grime do ‘not need to need to conform to the generic stereotype of wearing tracksuits and trainers (That isn’t a stereotype I associate with the genre but various people I know do) I believe fashion sense is individual to the person look at Skepta he wears track suits and Nike caps, Moschino, Ed Hardy the versatility of his wardrobe such highlight the fact no one has to conform to any specific style wear what you want when you want to. If nothing else clarifies my point Wiley’s song wearing my Rolex must do, this is an obvious fashion reference which in turn clarifies the link between fashion and music and how influential both fashion and music are because I guarantee after that song a far larger number of people began to wear Rolex’s parading them in order to try and secure some form of approval from Wiley due to his iconic stature within the industry of Grime.
Now you all must be wondering how Blue Rinse and music link well I know an array of people who all listen to different genres of music yet they still purchase clothes from this iconic shop. Personally I am a Grime enthusiast so if I was to conform to generic stereotypes I would wear track suits due to the vast amount of ignorant people within the world who segregate people based on specific differences. However I wear an array of clothes tracksuits, shirts, and polo’s non branded products whatever I want. So the message I am trying to construct within this article is this, wear whatever you want obviously music and other passions will influence your taste but never ever let someone else segregate you.
